Solar Flare is worked from the top down and grows through three sections. It begins solid, with shell details worked into the corners, a structured start that gives the wrap its shape before the lace opens up. That first section is calm and steady, setting the stage for everything that follows.

From there, the work shifts into an open-cluster lace, and then again into a deep net lace along the bottom edge. Each section changes the rhythm of the stitches and the way the fabric falls, so the wrap keeps your interest the whole way down. The lace is where it comes alive, open and airy, letting the light through the stitches.

The three sections read like a sky moving from daylight into evening, bright where it begins and deep where it ends. The fine weight and the open-work keep it light, so this is a wrap that drapes rather than sits stiff. Blocked, it spans 50 inches across and drops 22 inches at the deepest point, generous enough to wrap and flattering across most figures.

YARN:

925 yards / 846m of fingering weight yarn in three colors.

The sample uses Theodora's Pearls Auxanometer, a 100% bamboo yarn (4.6 oz / 115g = 400 yards / 365.75m), in (A) Raspberry Beret, (B) Goldenrod, and (C) Deep Space. Bamboo gives this wrap its sheen and its fluid drape.

HOOK:

US size E/4 (3.5 mm), or the size you need forgauge. Make sure you take the time to check it before you start.

NOTIONS:

Tapestry Needle

GAUGE:

18 dc and 9 dc rows = 4 inches / 10 cm.

Check your gauge before you begin. On a wrap this size, a small change in gauge shifts both the finished span and how much of your 925 yards you use across the three colors.

FINISHED SIZE:

Blocked, the wrap is 50 inches / 127 cm across the wingspan and 22 inches / 56 cm at the deepest point. Blocking opens the two lace sections and sets the triangle, so plan for it.
