Coastal Cowl is designed for that one gradient skein you have been saving. It takes about 435 yards of fingering weight, worked in the round, and the open lace lets a gradient move through the whole cowl instead of pooling in one spot. You watch the color shift as you climb the rounds, which is a good part of why this one is hard to put down.

The stitch pattern is a simple mesh worked over two repeating rounds. That is the whole engine of the cowl. Once you have the first few rounds set, the rest is the same two rounds over and over, which makes this an easy piece to pick up and put down between other things.

It is a weekend make. Cast on Saturday and you can be blocking it by Sunday night.

Yarn:

435 yards of fingering weight yarn, one gradient skein.

The sample uses Wooly Wonka Arianrhod Sock Gradient Skein (75% superwash wool, 20% silk, 5% glitter, 435 yards) in the colorway Beach Cove.

Hook:

US size E/4 (3.5 mm), or the size needed for gauge.

Notions:

Tapestry needle.

Gauge:

24 stitches and 10 rounds in pattern = 4 inches, blocked. Check your gauge before you begin. Your gauge sets both the circumference and how far your one skein will take you, so it is worth the few minutes.

Finished Size:

Blocked, the cowl is 16 inches tall and 32 inches around. Blocking opens the mesh and sets the shape, so plan for it.
